Severus Danger,
We knew we were in for it when we gave you that name; "Severe Danger" it literally translates to, I don't know what we were thinking...
We were silly enough to consider ourselves 'parenting experts', as you are our fourth child, but boy, you have proved to us just how little we know!
Since your birth {a few days short of full term} on the auspicious date of October 10th, 2010, you have been riddled with a few colds that have challenged our baby smarts.
The first time you got so heavily congested and started wheezing, we whisked you away to the children's hospital, demanding they tell us what was wrong with you and wouldn't take "He has a cold." for an answer.
I remember the on call nurse asking; "Is he your first?" Ha! I guess we were a tiny bit hysterical.
It wasn't the last time we'd end up there for a 'simple' cold, and if ever we went without a sibling, they'd always ask "Is he your first?". Even though it was inconvenient and often frustrating, we were grateful to be able to rush you to your pediatrician, or the hospital. We were thankful that we were able to buy you a humidifier, booger sucker outers, saline solution. We were privileged to have family to call when we were unsure, and to stay up all night with you watching Yo Gabba Gabba and listening to your gurgly giggles. We were lucky too, that it wasn't anything too serious and that we had these resources.
Now you are a wild, dangerous, 18 month old who still gets knocked down by the smallest colds and drives us into a frenzy of worry and concern, but these experiences have taught us so much, and we are no longer asked "Is he your first?"
{And thank goodness, because that was getting annoying.}
