Introducing: Focus!

Monday, June 25, 2012 at 10:46AM This is my youngest sister, Nyann - she'll be 11 years old next month, and she's 17 years younger than I am.
It's tough to bond with her sometimes because we're on totally different wavelengths, my house is boring to her, and I can't always bring my entire brood to my mother's because they're disruptive hellions.
Two years ago I was sure I wouldn't see her again, my mom was set to move to Hawaii and we were charting our course to North Carolina, but as fate would have it, we all ended up here. And right across a tiny road from each other - I can look into my mother's window! I don't though, because they moved the TV, so now I really don't have cable.
When I knew we'd be here, I made a promise to try harder to connect with her while I still had the chance, and that has been difficult, but not impossible.
We have a number of things in common;
- A love for nail polish.
- Food
- Reading {We both love Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and make fun of Twilight}
- Photography
We bond a lot over the latter, because that's pretty much what I'm always doing.
My mother bought her a stunning Nikon {woot, woot} point and shoot for Christmas which I've seen her use once or twice, so I thought I'd ask her why she didn't use it yesterday.
Her answer was strangely reminiscent of something I would say.
She told me there was nothing pretty around here to bother taking pictures of.
Since we're looking at a summer full to the brim of "around here", I suggested a project to keep our minds focused on something fun and positive.
Sooo...

was created!
We've created a list of themes, and every day for the next week both of our pictures and perspectives will be posted here, in diptych-esque form. {That means the occasional double post, guys!}
If we decide we love this project, we'll continue weekly through the summer, until she returns to school.
Today's theme is You/Bedhead, and here we are in all our glory:
Full size pictures are here.

I know NOTHING about photography, all I know is "oh that pictures cute" or liking things on instagram and FB lol, but this is a GREAT way to bond with your sister. I know the age difference probably makes it very hard, but this seems like a perfect way to bridge the gap.
That is a wounderful way to try and build a bond with your sister. I know my hubby is in the same boat he has a brother the same age as our son so you can only imagine lol.
What a cool idea! Have lots of fun girls!
Yes, that shall be me!(left) I am the sister! P.S. I look WAYS of the betters most of the time.
<3 Nyann
Awesome! I am the youngest of 7 girls, and there is a big age gap between the first set of 4 girls and the younger 3. My eldest sister is 13 years older than me. When I was young, she did a lot to bond with me, and those experiences are the solid base of our adult relationship. Plus I love the photography angle. I may try to do something like that with my teenage daughter who is into graphic design! Hey, have you tried Julep
HTTP://JULEP.COM/?R=19804443 out? You both share a love for nail polish and they have a neat promotion - the first month is 1 cent. I get it for my 14 year old - and we do pedicures, manicures. we love it.This is such an original and cool idea. I love it and will def follow along. Also your sister is so sweet and cute. tell her I said hi.
I love this idea! What a great way for you two to bond. And can I say, if that's how you both look as bedheads, I am jealous!
Cara, exactly - the age difference makes it rough, but I'm glad that we do have some things in common to talk about. It's just too bad that it sometimes throws into relief just how immature my old ass is. :P
That is great that you found a way that you both could share in something. The pictures are great too!
What a great way to bond with your sister. I'm sure you will both have a ton of fun and create a closer bond.
I think it's GREAT that you two have this to bond over!
What a fantastic idea for you and your sister! You should do it as a Meme so I can try to convince my sister to play along without totally stealing your idea . . . hehe. :P
My brother and I are only 5 years apart but we don't bond at all - over anything - ugh. He drives me nuts. LOL
Anyway, I absolutely love these pictures and if you can bond over nail polish and making fun of Twilight, surely you will be best friends forever. ;) <3
Yeah more photography bloggers like me!!! Can't wait to see what you beautiful ladies take pictures of next!
I love that --- the picture perspective I mean, and the focus! Cannot wait to see your other pictures this week!Bonding... that's something I would have to think about. I had one sister 11 years older, and one 8.5 years and it took to "adulthood" to know them as they were off and gone before I realised they were my sisters!
