Miami Vice Inspired Nail Art

Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 1:00PM Not that Miami Vice. I was inspired by the Nike Lebron 9 style sneakers!
{If you know me, this comes as no surprise.}
Released earlier this year, these sneeakers continue to elude me, {we're thinking of picking up a pair for Caesar} so I figured I'd stick the colors on my nails at least.
Recommended Items:
- Post It Note, Card, Sheet of Paper, etc
- Toothpick
- Makeup Sponge
Colors I Used:
- Under: Sally Hansen Black Heart
- Base: Julep Kate
- Kiss Nail Art Bikini Pink
- Kiss Nail Art Soft Blue
- Clear Top Coat
What I Did:
Step One: Optional, but a really good idea especially for this! Prepare nails. Using a Q-Tip, dab Vaseline around your cuticles, and fingertips, avoiding your nails.
Step Two: Paint underside of fingernails first, one coat will do.
Step Three: Paint nails with base coat - again, one coat will suffice.
Step Four: Here's where it gets tricky! Make two sizeable puddles of both polishes, and with your toothpick, swirl them into one another. Here's a great tutorial on the gradient nail if I'm making your brain foozzy.
Obviously my gradient needs perfecting, but I wanted to show you my very first attempt because it's super easy to do!
Step Five: Be ye not contrary, use a makeup sponge. I used a cotton ball, and of course it shredded and cotton balled my entire nail. Dip your sponge into the nail polish puddles and dab onto fingernail, coating the entire nail.
Step Six: Optional, add some flair! I added some little bubbles of extra pink.
Step Seven: Top coat, this technique makes for a bumpy nail {especially if you used a cotton ball}, so use the top coat to smooth it out. Clean it up, and you're all done! Might I suggest a victory dance to this song?

I can't remember where it was, but I saw it suggested that you put vaseline on your cuticles to make clean up easier.
Love the colors!
Very cute! Lebron is a bad word in my state though! lol
