Here Comes The Son
Monique |
Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 5:11PM We went on a treasure hunt, Mercutio and I.
We quietly tip toed through the backyard, our bare feet in the grass. We held hands and stopped occasionally to dig up sparkly rocks, or tiny super heroes, or buttons from just slightly beneath the dirt, and put them into our pockets for safekeeping.
The sun was warm, but the breeze kept us cool and comfortable as we took a break to examine our treasures together.
We sat and soaked in the summer's unofficial end, as I pondered all that's to come in autumn.
I asked him if he was ready to begin school.
Without a word he looked up at me with his big, brown eyes, and a humongous smile danced from one cheek to the other.
He nodded.
Yes, he's ready.
Ready to play, and learn, and share, and grow.
And all I have to do, is let him go.
I'm ready too.

Monique,
My son will start next year. Considering he is are only son I know how sad I will be the day he starts school. I realize though the moment we have a child our job is to work on letting them go. We just go trough each day the best we can knowing that we love them and allowing them to be who they are and growing up. Good job mom!

My oldest is going into Middle School. The age where he's as tall as me, acts like he's grown up one second and the very next minute he just wants a hug from his Mommy. Bittersweet...
